about

I finished tracking this song two nights before the pandemic shut down Boston. I was about to head to SXSW in Austin, Texas and play a series of shows in Texas and Louisiana. Obviously, then life happened. It's weird to put a song out, during these insane times, but it's done, I like it and I hope it'll give you a three-minute respite from the world we're currently living in.

lyrics

There's a scent of sin around her.
That always leaves me cold

And even in my darkest hour,
my heart, she'll always hold.

Once upon a time, she loved me.
She don't love me anymore.

I don't know just what I've done to,
make her oh so sore.

Maybe you and me could find a island in the sun
maybe you and me could find some fun

There's a scent of sin around her
that haunts me in the night.

And no matter what we do,
we always end in fight

Maybe you and me could find a better place to roam
maybe you and me could find a home

A place where I'm, I'm allowed
Oh where I'm, I'm allowed.

Maybe you and me could find an island of our own
maybe we could make ourselves a home

A place where I'm, I'm allowed
Oh where I'm, I'm allowed.

about

Matt York Boston, Massachusetts

Jed Gottlieb of the Boston Herald says, "You have to have smarts and heart to turn the same three chords Buddy Holly used into something fresh. On Matt York’s “Boston, Texas,” the singer-songwriter uses basic building blocks — Holly’s chords, Hank Williams’ swagger, Steve Earle’s boozy wisdom, Paul Westerberg’s straight-up-drunk wisdom — to construct an album of beauty, optimism and heartbreak". ... more
